There is something wonderfully nostalgic about a honeycomb paper decoration.
Perhaps it takes you back to childhood parties, Christmas gatherings or summer celebrations. Or perhaps it is simply the satisfying little moment when a flat piece of folded paper opens up to reveal a perfectly formed ball, flower, snowflake or bauble.
Whatever the reason, we think honeycomb decorations deserve their place in our homes all year round.
At The Danes, we love them for their colour, their simplicity and, most importantly, because they can be enjoyed again and again.

Paper decorations with a little bit of magic
Honeycomb decorations have a wonderfully old-fashioned charm. They are simple, joyful and instantly transform a space.
Our collection includes classic honeycomb balls, fans, garlands, snowflakes, trees and baubles in everything from soft Scandinavian-inspired neutrals to bold, joyful colours.
And there is something rather lovely about the way they arrive.
Flat packed and easy to store, they unfold in seconds. Open one up, secure it with the little clips and suddenly you have a three-dimensional decoration ready to hang.
It really is paper magic.

More than just Christmas decorations
Although honeycomb decorations have become a Christmas favourite, we don't think they should be packed away for eleven months of the year.
A cluster of colourful honeycomb balls can brighten a kitchen window, bring a little fun to a child's bedroom or create a joyful backdrop for a summer gathering.
They are equally at home at a birthday party, Christening, wedding, christening, garden celebration or commercial shop display. And sometimes there doesn't need to be an occasion at all.
Why not hang a few in a window simply because you love the colour?
Our giant sunflower and daisy-inspired paper decorations are particularly lovely for bringing a little summer happiness indoors.

The art of decorating with colour
One of the things we love most about honeycomb decorations is how easy they are to style.
For a calm Scandinavian look, try ivory, white, pale blue and softer natural shades. Layer different sizes together rather than making everything match perfectly.
For something more playful, choose contrasting Jewel colours and create a generous cluster above a dining table or fireplace.
And if you are decorating for Christmas, don't be afraid to move beyond traditional red and green. Deep teal, maroon, jewel colours, ivory and dark green create a wonderfully nostalgic, slightly folky Christmas feel.
The secret is often to use a mixture of sizes. A handful of larger decorations creates the impact, while smaller honeycomb balls and baubles fill in the gaps.

Think vertically
Honeycomb decorations are particularly effective when you look upwards.
Hang them from a branch over the dining table, suspend them at different heights from a ceiling, or create a colourful display along a staircase.
A few larger baubles can also make a surprisingly impressive table decoration. Our large jewel-coloured honeycomb baubles have a distinctive chandelier shape and can be combined with smaller decorations to create a colourful tablescape without needing lots of pieces.
For weddings and parties, they can be used to create a backdrop or statement installation. For everyday decorating, a couple hanging in a window can be enough to add a little colour and movement.

A more sustainable way to celebrate
We are always looking for ways to celebrate without creating unnecessary waste, which is one of the reasons we love paper decorations.
Good-quality honeycomb decorations are designed to be reused. Once the party is over, simply fold them back up and store them carefully for another occasion.
The honeycomb decorations in our collection are made from premium tissue paper, and many are crafted by a fourth-generation family of paper artists whose family business has been making these decorations for around 120 years. Materials are sourced from other independent businesses too.
That history makes us smile.
In a world where so many decorations are designed to be used once and thrown away, there is something wonderfully reassuring about a decoration that can become part of your celebrations year after year.
Our favourite way to use honeycomb decorations
We like to keep things relaxed.
Choose three or four complementary colours and mix different shapes and sizes. Don't worry about creating perfect symmetry. Hang a few from a branch, add some greenery and perhaps a little candlelight, and let the decorations become part of the setting rather than the whole story.
For Christmas, combine ivory or white honeycomb balls with dark green, maroon or red.
For spring and summer, introduce pale blue, yellow, pink or brighter botanical colours.
And for a party? That's your excuse to have fun with colour.
After all, decorating your home should make you happy.
Small decorations, big impact
Perhaps that is what we love most about honeycomb paper decorations.
They don't take themselves too seriously.
They are inexpensive, easy to store, reusable and wonderfully versatile. A few can completely change the feeling of a room, turning an ordinary table into a celebration or bringing a little colour to an otherwise quiet corner.
They remind us that decorating doesn't always have to be complicated or expensive.
Sometimes all you need is a piece of folded paper, a splash of colour and a little bit of imagination.
And that, to us, is the very essence of The Danes.

Why we choose quality paper decorations
There are plenty of disposable decorations available, but we think there is a real difference between something designed to be used once and something made to be enjoyed for years.
Our honeycomb decorations combine:
Quality materials
Premium tissue paper creates the beautiful structure and finish.
Beautiful colour
From understated neutrals to bold jewel tones, the colour palette has been carefully developed to make decorating creative and fun.
Traditional craftsmanship
The decorations are made by a fourth-generation family of paper artists with around 120 years of experience.
Reusability
They fold flat so you can store them and use them again.
Versatility
They work for Christmas, weddings, birthdays, parties, everyday decorating and commercial displays.
It's a combination we really love.

How to store honeycomb decorations
Looking after your decorations is simple.
Once your celebration is finished, gently close the honeycomb decoration and return it to its flat shape.
Keep it somewhere dry and away from anything that could crush or tear the tissue paper.
If you've kept the original packaging, that's ideal. Otherwise, a sturdy box or envelope will help protect the decorations until you need them again.
And next time there is something to celebrate, simply take them out, open them up and enjoy the transformation again.
