Hygge The Danes Way

Hygge = noun - pronounced hue-guh not hoo-gah, specially in reference to the Danish lifestyle, the feeling of coziness and contentment evoked by simple comforts, as being wrapped in a blanket, lighting candles, having good conversations, sitting round a table enjoying food, etc.

Enjoying life simple pleasures - for us ‘Hygge’ is the pursuit of everyday happiness & contentment, which can easily be embraced by everyone, think of it’s as being a good antidote to everyday busy life.
 Hygge The Danes Way
Understanding the fine art of HYGGE: It is all about creating and enjoying a good sense of wellbeing & happiness and all importantly enjoying life's everyday moments. At The Danes we hope that we can inspire you on how to bring hygge into your lives. For us, it is all about enjoying the moments, whether being with friends and family or just being at home, being cozy.

Here is our guide on how to embrace Hygge, The Danes Way:

Invite friends and family for brunch, lunch, dinner or perhaps just a cup of coffee with homemade cake.  Create a beautiful table, bring in flower posies from the garden, light candles, not just for celebrations, but as the nights draw in, candles creates a magical feeling. Throw a couple of logs on the fire, even on a cold Monday evening.
Celebrate life's moments, little as well as large: We believe that all birthdays need to be celebrated, strong traditions are in play and taught from an early age. Put up decorations, create a festive layer-cake or a home baked cake and invite family and friends for afternoon tea.
Special moments: Christmas is probably the ultimate time for Hygge; with a long and cold winter it is a time to be cozy indoors; crafting, baking, making homemade sweets and enjoying a glass or two of mulled wine while counting down to the Christmas celebrations but remember that there is no set time limit, most of us struggle to fit it all in and the 'hygge'liest' time is often when there are no expectations...the days after Christmas (twixmas) often lends themselves perfect to this.
