Tasty Banana Chocolate Treats

A little lockdown Valentine's treat to bake for someone special. What to show special love, try these easy to bake Banana Chocolate Hearts. Bake on a swiss roll tin for 45 mins at 175C, leave to cool. Once cool enough to handle, use heart cutters to cut out love hearts. Melt the chocolate in the microwave oven for 2 mins, until runny and use a small spoon to drizzle onto the individual hearts. Box up using tissue paper to make it look pretty. 

 

Ingredients

  • 75 grams butter
  • 75 grams dark brown musacadow sugar
  • 2 large free range/organic eggs, lightly beaten
  • 175 grams self-raising flour
  • ¾ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp baking powder
  • ¼ tsp bicarbonate soda
  • 2-3 very ripe bananas, mashed
  • * (optional 50 grams of coarsely chopped walnuts, pecans, chocolate chip or glazed cherries)

 

Method

Preheat the oven to 175C

Line a swiss roll with baking paper.

Have all the ingredients ready at room temperature.

Beat together the butter and sugar for a couple of minutes until the mixture becomes light and fluffy (you can also mix this together by hand). Gradually beat in the egg a little at the time.

Now add the flour, salt, baking powder and bicarbonate soda and mix in gently, until it resembles the consistency of brown sugar.

Fold in until just combined the mashed bananas and the optional ingredients if wanted.

Transfer to a buttered lined baking tin, bake in the oven for 45 minutes at 175C, check by inserting a skewer in the middle of the cake, if the skewer comes out clean, it is ready.

Leave to cool before using a heart cooking cutter to cut out hearts.
